Clearing the Windows TEMP folder
PROKON uses the Windows TEMP folder for temporary storage. Examples of this include
creating temporary buffers on disk during a large analysis, and extracting ZIP archives
during program updates. Sometimes issues arise with access to the TEMP folder that are
beyond PROKON’s control. To resolve such issues, you can try the following:
- Restart your computer and then try the same action again.
- If restarting does not resolve the problem, then clear the TEMP folder.
Cleaning up the TEMP folder
The location of the TEMP folder varies by the version of Windows. Recent version Windows
allocate the C:\Users\YourUserName\Appdata\Local\Temp for temporary storage. Here are
two methods to clean up the TEMP folder:
- Run the Disk Cleanup program that comes with Windows, and select the option to
clean the “temporary files”

address bar to open the TEMP folder. Select all files and folders inside the TEMP
folder, and delete them. Note that some files may be in use by programs currently
running; you will not be able to delete them. For this reason, it is best to first restart
your computer and try this step with as few as possible programs running.
